They defeated Arsenal 4-1 on penalties and clinched their first-ever title with a 2-1 golden goal win over Real Madrid in Istanbul. The Turkish club celebrated their greatest international success when they hosted English club Liverpool Fc in the UEFA stadium in Champions League qualifiers and lost 1-0 after 120 minutes without scoring.
