History and description

The plans were put on hold in the early 1990s when la Verona went bankrupt and did not resume them until 2006 when they were again approved. The stadium was originally going to be built in a small town called Caprona, but later moved to the outskirts of the city when negotiations failed with the local government. First plans for the construction of Stadio Brianteo were made in the late 1970s, when la Verona played in Serie B. The plans were put on hold in the early 1990s, when la Verona went bankrupt and did not resume them until 2006. The stadium was originally going to be built in a small town called Caprona, but later moved to the outskirts of the city when negotiations failed with the local government. However, from the approval of the plans in 1980 and the first stone to be laid in 1982, it took until 1988 for the stadium to open. Stadio Brianteo officially opened on 28 August 1988 with a match between Monza and Roma.

A record number of people attended a Serie B match between Genoa and the stadium in attendance on Saturday.

In the recent years, capacity has been significantly reduced due to safety measure, at one point going as low as 5,000. A number of refurbishments in 2019 raised capacity up to over 7,000 again.

How to get to Stadio Brianteo

The Stadio Brianteo is located in the east of Monza, about 2 kilometres from Monza's city centre. The town has a population of about 118,000 people. Monza lies in the north-east of the Milan greater metropolitan region, about 15 kilometres from central Milan. The town has a population of about 118,000 people.

It is about a half an hour walk from Monza City Centre to the stadium, from Monza's main railway stadium, just south of the city centre, a few minutes more. Alternatively, catch bus Z206 from either the railway station or Piazza Carducci in the centre.

To get to Monza from Milan, one can take various regional commuter train services departing from Garibaldi train station. Catch either the S7 or S8 to Lecco, the S9 to Saronno, the S11 to Chiasso, the R14 to Bergamo, the RE8 to Tirano, or the RE10 to Airolo/Biasca. The journey will take just over 15 minutes and there is frequent service.

Tickets for the Monza race can be bought online through Vivaticket, or in person at any of the Vivaticket sales points or at the racetrack from a few days before the race. Tickets are also available on the day at the racetrack. A seat behind the goal costs ?  8.00 and a seat for the main stand ?  16.00
