The history of US Sassuolo Calcio (officially: Unione Sportiva Sardegna) dates back to 1920 when the club was founded as a limited liability company. The club has always played in the top Italian division and, curiously, is also an amateur club! The 2012/13 season saw the club rise to fame across Europe by winning the Serie B championship, but what most people know about this storied institution starts with the fact that they struggled to even get on the pitch. .. The club finished the 2015/16 season in sixth place, while Juventus had already qualified for the Champions League as champions. Victory in the Coppa Italia dropped Sassuolo's international place to a Serie A side - and it meant they could win a European competition for the first time in their club's history! With a 1-1 away draw and a 3-0 home win against FC Luzern (in Switzerland) and Red Star Belgrade respectively, the team reached the group stage of the 2016-2017 Europa League and also won the playoffs, beating them 4-2 Dream pledged Coventry City.
