It has hosted events such as the World Cup and the Summer Olympics. The stadium has a capacity of over 50,000 people. The Nissan Stadium is Japan's largest stadium and has hosted events such as the World Cup and the Summer Olympics. It has a capacity of over 50,000 people. Plans for the construction of the stadium were made in the early 1990s and construction began on 1 January 1994. After almost four years of building works, the stadium officially opened on 1 March 1998. The cost of this project was Y$60.3 billion.

The Nissan Stadium served as the centerpiece of the 2002 World Cup, hosting a total of four matches. Among which was the final between Brazil and Germany (2-0).

Between 2002 and 2004, the stadium hosted the Intercontinental Cup, and between 2005 and 2008, and in 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2016 it hosted the final of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Nissan Stadium is used for many other sports events, such as athletics, rugby, and American football.

How to get to Nissan Stadium

The Nissan Stadium is located in the north of Yokohama, about 6 km from central Yokohama and almost 10 km from Yokohama Chinatown. The stadium furthermore lies about 25 km south-west from central Tokyo. The stadium can be reached via subway by taking the blue line from Yokohama Station. Shin-Yokohama Station, which is located about a ten to fifteen minute walk east of the stadium, can be reached with the blue line from Yokohama Station. The trip from Yokohama Station will take just over ten minutes.

The stadium is served by overground trains on the Yokohama Line. Trains leave from Higashikanagawa station (just north of Yokohama Station) and less frequent from Yokohama Station.

You can get from Tokyo to Shin-Yokohama Station by taking the T?kaid? Shinkansen high-speed railway line. Shin-Yokohama is the second stop on the line, and it's estimated that the trip will take about 20 minutes.

Alternatively, you may take the train to Yokohama Station (JR T?kaid? Line) and transfer onto the blue line metro.
