History and description

The Guldensporenstadion was built right after the end of World War 2 and officially opened on 17 August 1947. A few changes were made to the stadium in the 1980s, when first the two stands behind the goals were renovated and then a new main stand was built. As a result, the stadium's capacity is now around 15,000.

Capacity got reduced again in the late 1990s when one of the stands had decayed to the point that it had to get demolished. It took a decade for the stand to get replaced by a new one, which finally happened in 2008.

How to get to Guldensporenstadion

The Guldensporenstadion is located just north-west of the city centre and train station in Kortrijk. It will take about 15 minutes to walk from the train station to the stadium, and about 30 minutes to walk from the city centre, the Grote Markt. There is regular direct train service from Gent, Bruges, Brussels, Antwerp, and French city Lille to Kortrijk.

You can catch a bus from the train station to the stadium. Bus 4 (to Heule), 40 (to Menen), or 61 (to Ardooie) will take you there. Get off at Kortrijk Stadion stop (line 4) or Kortrijk Meensepoort stop (lines 40 and 61). The ride will only take 5 to 8 minutes.
