Feyenoord is by far one of the most famous clubs in Dutch football and has a rich history. Founded in 1920 by English workers, the club was originally called 'de Voetbal Vereniging' (The Football Club) before becoming known as 'Feyenoords SV' or 'Feyen's' for short in the years 1925-1930 when three other teams were formed under that name became: FC Amsterdam, who later represented the Netherlands at international level; the PSV Eindhoven, which is still well known today, more than 70 years after its formation, while Heracles Almelo was dissolved decades ago due to economic difficulties during the Great Depression.

In 1970, Feijenoord became the first European club to win both the Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup for club teams. They became champions twice more (1974) and their most recent success was in 2002 when they again won the prestigious UEFA Cup competition!
