History and description

The American Express Community Stadium, officially called the American Express Falmer Stadium and also referred to as Brighton's new home ground, officially opened on the 30th of July 2011 with a friendly match between Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur (2-3). Brighton had been planning to construct a new stadium as early as 1995 after their former chairman, Bill Archer, sold their Goldstone Ground to property developers.

When Brighton became homeless they first shared a ground with Gillingham for two seasons, and then moved to the Withdean Stadium, an athletics stadium in Brighton that although it was upgraded lacked the modern facilities for League football.

In 2007, Brighton required planning permission to begin construction of the stadium due to various legal challenges. Building works began in 2008 and in 2010, the club confirmed a naming rights sponsorship deal with American Express.

The Amex began planning for an expansion of their membership to 30,000 seats in December 2011.

Brighton received planning permission in early 2012 to add an extra 5,000 seats and began construction of a second tier on the East Stand before the start of the 2012-13 season. Brighton then closed the corners of the South Sand to create additional 3,000 seats in early 2013. These additions increased Brighton's capacity to 30,500 seats in 2020. In 2021, following some small adjustments, Brighton's capacity was increased to 31,800.

How to get to The Amex

The Amex is located northeast of Brighton near the University of Sussex campus at about 4 kilometers from Brighton's main rail station, and slightly more from Brighton's seafront with its pier. Turn onto the B2123 and follow it to the stadium. The stadium is located just south of the A27 motorway. Take the exit toward the B2123 Falmer. Turn onto the B2123 and follow it to the stadium.

If using public transport, the Amex can be reached by train. Falmer Rail Station lies practically adjacent to the stadium. Trains from Brighton Rail Station leave every 10 to 20 minutes for the 10-minute journey. From London a transfer in Lewes or Brighton is required.

Alternatively, bus 25 can be used to reach the stadium. Take the bus on Western Road in Brighton, which is in the centre of town. The ride from the center to stop Falmer Station takes about 20 minutes.

Address: Village Way, Brighton, BN1 9BL

Eat, drink, and sleep near The Amex

The Amex is located outside of Brighton, in a rural area bordered by the University of Sussex campus, some residential housing, and farmlands. There is little around in terms of eating and drinking, which is recommended to be done in a pleasant Brighton. There are neither any hotels in the close vicinity of The Amex, but there is plenty of choice in Brighton on the seafront.

Brighton & Hove Albion Tickets

Tickets for Brighton matches can be bought online, or at the Ticket Office at The Amex Stadium. Tickets are also sold at the stadium on the day of the match. If you want to attend Brighton's game, it is recommended that you book in advance.

Tickets are priced according to the opponent. The cheapest tickets are for category C matches, which range from £30.00 for a seat behind the goal to £46.00 for a central seat at one of the sides. The most expensive tickets start at £45.00 and go up to £65.00 for the most expensive seats.

The Amex Stadium Tours

Brighton organises guided stadium tours that include access to the hospitality lounges, trophy room, directors lounge, changing rooms, press areas, and dugouts. The tours last about 105 minutes. The tours run multiple times a week, typically on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the morning or afternoon. Check the official website for upcoming dates and bookings. To book tickets, visit the Ticket Offices at The Amex.

The tour costs £13.00.

Useful websites

The Brighton & Hove Albion FC official website, Seagulls.co.uk, provides tourist information and travel guides for Brighton visitors. Buses.co.uk offers bus travel information for visiting fans travelling to the city centre and surrounding areas. Getting to and returning from Brighton Station is free, though be aware that there can be queues due to the game. The locals are generally friendly and it's the experience we should expect when attending away matches.

Getting to and from Brighton Station is free though be aware of queues after the game. The locals are generally friendly and it is the experience we should expect from going to away matches.

The home fans seemed subdued and non-committal, much like the team on the pitch. However, this was a pleasant day in Brighton and it was an interesting experience to go to a game here compared to other games I've attended in the UK.

The Brighton fans did not show much backbone, like their team on the pitch. All said, it was a pleasant day in Brighton and a whole new experience compared to other games I have been to in the UK.

This paragraph is about whether or not the stadium itself is good. It mentions that, although it may not be the best stadium, it has some decent facilities in the away end.

And coming back is even more frustrating - the queues in both directions from Falmer station stretched a long way and again trains were running at intervals of 15 minutes. This was midweek, maybe they would be more regular on a Saturday afternoon. The stadium itself is fine - a reasonable atmosphere and decent facilities in the away end.

That?s pretty-much what its like for every home game

Thank you to Brighton Football Club and staff for providing padded seating for our away game. This made the experience very enjoyable, even though we didn't achieve our ultimate goal of winning.

Dear Brighton Football Club and Staff, Thank you for hosting me today at your away game against Cardiff City. I had a great time, despite the fact that 3 points would have been a bonus. I appreciate all the effort put into making this afternoon enjoyable, and thank you especially to the club's management and staff.

There was no signage directing people back to the car park after the concert, and then there was a huge congestion in the parking lot. People waited over an hour to leave because there was a jam, and if the stadium had been planned better, there would have been a traffic directing system. The only good thing about this event was the weather.

There was no signage directing people to return to the car park, and then chaos ensued as people waited over an hour to exit due to a jam. Who allowed a stadium to be built without also creating the infrastructure to move the crowds? And who planned a concert without checking on this poor infrastructure? Though it had only been raining for a short time, it was still an organisational shambles with the only grace being the weather.
