History and description

The Stadio Artemio Franchi opened on 8 December 1938 with a friendly match between Siena and Empoli. The stadium was originally simply called Stadio Comunale, but it received its current name in 1986. Between 2007 and 2013 "Montepaschi Arena" was added to the stadium name as part of a sponsorship deal.

The stadium underwent various renovations over the years, most notably in the mid-2000s after the club promotion to Serie A and several new stands had to be built to comply with Serie A standards.

How to get to Stadio Artemio Franchi Siena

The stadium can hold up to 55,000 people and is used for concerts, sporting events and other large gatherings. The Stadio Artemio Franchi lies on the edge of Siena's historic centre, right next to the Basilica di San Domenico. It is just a 5-minute walk from the central square Piazza del Campo or the Duomo.
